Overview

Formation and Objective

A society is formed by a group of individuals or organizations coming together with a common objective, such as promoting education, culture, art, sports, welfare, or any other socially beneficial cause. The members collectively work towards achieving the society's goals.

Legal Recognition

Society registration provides legal recognition to the society as a separate entity. It establishes the society's existence, rights, and obligations, allowing it to function independently and enter into legal agreements, own property, and sue or be sued in its own name.

Governing Document

A society is governed by a set of rules and regulations known as the Memorandum of Association and Rules & Regulations. These documents outline the objectives, membership criteria, management structure, decision-making process, and operational guidelines of the society.

Membership and Management

The society consists of members who contribute to its activities and have rights and responsibilities as per the society's rules. The management of the society is typically carried out by elected office-bearers or a governing body responsible for making decisions, managing funds, and overseeing the society's operations.

Benefits of society registration

Legal Recognition & Protection

Society registration provides the society with legal recognition as a separate legal entity. This recognition enhances credibility and allows the society to enter into contracts, own assets, and sue or be sued in its own name.

Fundraising and Grants

Registered societies are eligible to seek funding from government bodies, philanthropic organizations, and corporate entities. They can apply for grants, donations, and financial support to carry out their social, cultural, or educational initiatives.

Tax Exemptions

Registered societies may enjoy tax exemptions or benefits. They may be exempt from income tax on their surplus income or receive tax deductions for donations made to the society. These tax benefits help maximize the funds available for the society's activities.

Credibility and Trust

Society registration enhances the credibility and trustworthiness of the organization. It instills confidence in donors, members, and stakeholders who are more likely to support a registered society, considering its compliance with legal requirements and commitment to transparency.
