    Any food-related business that produces, transports, stores, or distributes food must be licenced and registered in India. Obtaining an FSSAI registration or licence may be necessary, depending on the size and type of the firm.

    In a notice dated July 27, 2022, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) stated that all services provided by the FSSAI, such as the issuance of a Central licence and the payment of Food Safety Mitra Fees, Product Approval Fees, Import Clearance Fees, and other fees, would be subject to GST at the specified rate.
